How greenhouse crop harvesting develops in Spain

Printable version
In the bell pepper greenhouses in Almería (Spain), there has been an increase in the harvest, although the most recent plantations are still in the process of flowering, fruit set and fruit growth.

In the case of eggplant, the development of the crop continues its normal course with tasks such as trellising, fruit set, fruit fattening and harvesting. In zucchini, there are plantations at various stages of growth, where trellising and application of fruit set stimulant products by foliar application are carried out.

As for tomato, harvesting is increasing, although it has not yet reached its maximum yield due to delays in planting in the nursery. Pollination is carried out with the help of bumblebees.

In the field of cucumber, there are plantations in different stages of development, from newly transplanted to the earliest in production, according to the Agricultural and Fisheries Information Service of the Junta de Andalucía.

In the province of Granada, specifically in the region of La Costa, Dutch cucumber greenhouses are observed in full harvest, although with a slight delay of one week.
In the west of Andalusia, in Huelva, strawberry planting is being completed in the greenhouses of the Condado Litoral region. The predominant varieties are Fortuna, Rociera and Marimbella, with a generally high plant density. However, there have been losses of plants due to excessive rains, dragging and waterlogging in low areas. In addition, problems have been observed in agricultural infrastructures and greenhouses due to strong winds. So far, no significant pest or disease problems have been reported, although environmental humidity could favor their appearance.

In raspberry plantations, there is a delay in fruit ripening due to the high temperatures recorded in recent months. The quantities harvested and marketed are notably lower (-25%) compared to the previous season, due to the weakening suffered by the plants during their development and ripening.

As for blueberries, the earliest plantations are in the fruit fattening or fruit set stage. Some damage has been observed in plots affected by flooding, excess humidity, dragging or damage to infrastructure (plastics, tunnels) caused by intense and continuous winds in recent days.
