Peruvian grape shipments increase 65% until October

Table grapes will play a crucial role in increasing Peru's fruit and vegetable exports this year. According to the president of the consulting firm Inform@cción, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, from May 1 to October 30, 2023, table grape exports reached 92,000 tons, showing an increase of 65% compared to the same period of the previous year, when 55,000 tons were shipped.
 
This notable growth is evident in all table grape producing regions in the country, such as Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ica and Arequipa. Cilloniz pointed out that the table grape campaign was brought forward due to higher temperatures, which could result in an earlier end to the campaign than usual.
 
In addition to the increase in volume, Cilloniz highlighted that table grape prices have also experienced an increase in international markets. This increase will provide a counterweight to the difficulties faced by other important agro-export crops, such as blueberries. Cilloniz emphasized that this increase in prices is mainly observed in patented varieties, generating a compound effect on the total value of grape exports.
