Japan further opens its market to Australian mangoes

Printable version
Australia was already exporting mangoes to Japan, but only 5 types were authorized to enter the Japanese market.

The Australian government has announced that Japan is removing varietal restrictions on Australian mango exports. From now on, all types of mango grown in Australia will be available for export to Japan.

"But the significance of this achievement is not limited to mangoes. The removal of varietal restrictions paves the way for changes to other products, potentially paving the way for further expansion of market access and strengthening Australia's horticultural sector," said Murray Watt, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Japan is Australia's second-largest export market for agricultural, forestry and fishery products, with a value of AUD 6.5 billion (USD 4.1 billion) in 2022-23, up 4% on the previous year.

The 1st mango exports under this new agreement will begin this season.
