Printable version
Following an estimate made in March 2023, the FAO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, has published its study for the whole of 2022 concerning world trade in the main tropical fruits, including pineapple.

According to this study (Major Tropical Fruits, Market Review 2022), based on data available for the full year, world pineapple exports reached 3.1 million tonnes, a variation of -2.2% on 2021.

Costa Rica, the world's leading exporter with a share of around 70%, achieved an export volume of just under 2 million tonnes, or -4.7% on 2021. Adverse weather conditions, high energy costs and container problems adversely affected Costa Rica's production and exports. For the 1st time since 2015, the country has recorded an export volume of less than 2 million tonnes.

The Philippines, the world's 2nd largest exporter, achieved an export volume of 580,000 tonnes, up 5.6% on 2021.

In 2022, the 2 main destinations for pineapple exports remain the United States (39% of volume) and the European Union (26%).
