Tajikistan plans to increase fresh fruit exports

Printable version
In 2022, Tajikistan exported agricultural products worth USD 249 million (USD 195 million for cotton lint and USD 54 million for fruit and vegetables).

To increase revenues from fruit and vegetable exports, it is necessary to increase production. A recent study took stock of various products:
Apricot: the country's leading fruit in terms of cultivation and export volume. Annual revenues range from 20 to 25 million USD. New apricot plantations have sprung up in the Sughd and Khatlon regions.
Grapes: generating an annual income of over 10 million USD, the government considers grapes to be one of the priority types of agricultural produce and supports viticulture to increase production.
Onions: generating annual income of around 6 million USD, increasing yields per hectare could generate additional income of at least 3 million USD.
Nuts: generating an annual income of around 1.5 million USD per 1,000 tons (walnuts, pistachios, almonds) exported. Production could be encouraged, as the benefits of growing pistachios, walnuts and almonds are far greater than those of melons and cereals.
Carrots: annual income exceeds 500,000 USD. The country could increase its production, benefiting from natural conditions that allow carrots to be sown 3 times a season - in February-March, August and November-December.

The government intends to increase fruit production to 516,000 tonnes and exports to 30,000 tonnes over the next 3 years.
