Blue Whale has launched an ambitious research program

Printable version
Blue Whale is the leader of a consortium of players in the agricultural sector, united around an ambitious research project: (Re)Generation Fruit. A 5-year research program for high-performance, sustainable arboriculture.

The consortium brings together Blue Whale, INRAE, the PURPAN engineering school, start-ups Asclepios Tech and Micropep Technologies, and industrialist MAF RODA.

The aim is a systemic approach combining different innovative technologies to improve the quality of apples and the overall health of living organisms:

Improving soil life through adapted agroecological practices.

Reinforce plants' natural defenses against bio-aggressors

Reduce the use of phytosanitary products

Reduce fruit losses, from the orchard to the plate, notably by improving fruit keeping qualities.

Produce fruit with improved nutritional density, for a healthier effect.

Propose a more virtuous production itinerary, respecting the ecosystem as a whole, and ensuring the sustainability of tree farms.

This 5-year research program is funded by the French government as part of the #France2030 plan (Innovating for successful agro-ecological and food transitions) and accredited by the VEGEPOLYS VALLEY and Agri Sud-Ouest Innovation competitiveness clusters.

BLUE WHALE, a group of fruit growers set up in 1950, today brings together nearly 300 growers. BLUE WHALE markets 27 varieties of apples, as well as plums, pears, kiwis and grapes. Its harvest forecast for this season is 300,000 tons of fruit, all species combined.
