Printable version
At the recent Fruit Attraction 2023, Fructidor.com interviewed María José Sánchez, director of the Fruit Attraction trade fair.

Fructidor: How do you explain the growing success of Fruit Attraction?

María José Sánchez - IFEMA: "The 2023 edition was the 15th anniversary of Fruit Attraction, which has recorded incredible growth since its inception. None of the other trade shows organized by IFEMA MADRID has experienced such impressive growth. This was a record year in terms of space occupied, number of exhibitors and number of foreign exhibitors (+40%). Fruit Attraction has established itself as a major show for the sector. "

"Exhibitors expressed complete satisfaction: the atmosphere is warm and friendly, visitors are numerous and of high quality, and contacts are easy."

"The dates of the show are very appropriate for the markets. Fruit Logistica and Fruit Attraction seem to be complementary shows, with many companies preferring to start business at Fruit Attraction and then continue and maintain contacts at Fruit Logistica in Berlin."

"IFEMA MADRID's structures are modern and adapted to the event. The architecture, layout and layout of the halls are welcoming."

"Show participants praised the quality and professionalism of visitors, who topped the 90,000 mark. The number of international visitors rose by +26%, representing 45% of the total number of visitors. The 'International Guest' program, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and ICEX, attracted 700 major buyers, retail purchasing managers, importers and wholesalers from 66 countries."

Fructidor: What are your observations on the problems facing the industry?

María José Sánchez - IFEMA: "The context is complicated for the industry. Problems have been identified (drought, effects of climate change, environment, protection of resources and the planet, etc.) and are very much in the news, but science and research can provide solutions to manage and overcome them. With the world's food supply as its object, the fruit and vegetable industry is fundamental to everyone's future."

Fructidor: What about consumer markets?

María José Sánchez - IFEMA: "There is indeed a decline in consumption in mature markets like Europe, but these European societies are safe from famine. The real problem is when we can't produce enough. Production is falling but the population is rising, so the need for production will increase. Here too, science and research can provide solutions to manage and overcome the problems."

Fructidor: In terms of development, Fruit Attraction will be in Brazil?

María José Sánchez - IFEMA: "Fruit Attraction São Paulo was presented here. This is the 1st time that Fruit Attraction will travel abroad. This new show has raised a lot of interest, both for the size and importance of the Brazilian market and for European companies wishing to develop production in Brazil. The show is co-organized by IFEMA MADRID and a partner, Fiera Milano, which has a very active local structure there."

The next Fruit Attraction will be held from October 8 to 10, 2024.
