French pear production down 13

Printable version
This negative variation is linked to the phenomenon of alternation, which means that a smaller harvest follows an abundant one like last year.

A publication of Agreste Conjoncture, issued by the French Ministry of Agriculture, announces that French table pear production in 2023, based on data as of October 1, 2023, is estimated at 124,100 tonnes.

This represents -13% on 2022 and -3% on the 2018-2022 average.

This decline is particularly concentrated in summer varieties, which have been affected by heatwaves and drought; the Guyot variety is expected to record a variation of -35% in volume compared with 2022. Autumn varieties should have the same volume as in 2022, while winter varieties should record a variation of +4% compared with 2022.
