Good rhythm of Peruvian grape exports

Printable version
From 1 to 17 September this year, Peru has shipped a total of 4,970,813 kilos of table grapes, which represents an increase of +223.33% compared to the 1,537,404 kilos shipped in the same period of 2022.

According to the president of the consultancy firm Inform@cción, Fernando Cillóniz, these shipments constitute a preview of the 2023/2024 table grape campaign, which will begin in October and will last until March next year.

Cillóniz explained that Hurricane Hilary, which occurred three weeks ago in the United States, has had a strong impact on table grape production in California. This has led to the market currently demanding Peruvian grapes at very favourable prices.

In particular, in the region of Piura, the second main exporting area of this fruit, 3,157,382 kilos of table grapes have been shipped in the period analysed this year, registering an impressive increase of +318.5% compared to the 754,383 kilos shipped in the same period last year.

In the case of Lambayeque, during the first 17 days of September 2023, 673,056 kilos of table grapes were exported, representing a +44% growth compared to the 467,400 kilos shipped in a similar period last year.

Shipments from Arequipa in that term reached 707,995 kilos, reflecting an increase of +124.31% compared to the 315,621 kilos exported in the same period of 2022.

Regarding the main table grape exporting region in Peru, Ica, shipments of this fruit for the current season have not yet begun and are expected to start from November or December. A growth in shipments from this region is expected.

Cillóniz pointed out that in the 2023/2024 season, an increase in both the volume and value of table grape exports from Peru is expected, as prices are and will continue to be favourable.

It is worth noting that from 1 May to 17 September 2023, Peru has exported a total of 10,705,325 kilos of table grapes, which represents an increase of +9.77% compared to the 9,752,396 kilos shipped in the same period last year.
