Forecast increase in the volume of walnuts harvested in California

According to the official estimate issued by the USDA's statistics service, walnut production in California in 2023 should be 5% higher than in 2022.
 
As of September 1, based on measurements taken between July 22 and August 25, 2023, the USDA's estimate is that walnut production in California should reach 790,000 tonnes, up 5% on the 752,000 tonnes produced in 2022. 
 
With regard to the area in production, the USDA points out that this estimate is based on an estimated area of 385,000 acres (155,803 hectares), down 4% on the 400,000 acres (161,874 hectares) in 2022.
 
Compared with last year, nut production per tree is up, and the weight and average size of nuts are higher.
