Mexico leads avocado and blackberry production worldwide

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Mexico, Mexico is the world's leading producer of avocado and blackberry, second in green chili, lime, and raspberry production, and third in asparagus, guava, and mango production.

 

The data from the Agricultural and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP) indicates that avocado production in 2022 reached 2 million 541 thousand tons, valued at 63 billion 448 million pesos (≈ $3.7 billion dollars), covering a total cultivated area of 252,000 hectares.

 

In the case of blackberries, there were 10 thousand hectares dedicated to cultivation last year, resulting in a production of 223,000 tons valued at 4 billion 796 million pesos (≈ $282.1 million dollars).

As for green chili production, 2022 witnessed the cultivation of 3 million 112 thousand tons over an area of 158 thousand 238 hectares, with a value of 36 billion 586 million pesos (≈ $2.1 billion dollars).

Lime production amounted to 3 million 101 thousand tons in 2022, cultivated across an area of 219 thousand hectares, with a value of 28 billion 141 million pesos (≈ $1.6 billion dollars).

Raspberry production totaled 178 thousand 667 tons and was harvested from nine thousand 627 hectares, generating a revenue of just over 12 billion 600 million pesos (≈ $741.3 million dollars).

Asparagus production reached 357 thousand 839 tons last year, with a value of 17 billion 271 million pesos (≈ $1.016 million dollars) over an area of 38 thousand 435 hectares.

As for guava production, 2022 witnessed the cultivation of 321 thousand tons across 22 thousand 546 hectares, with a production value of 2 billion 134 million pesos (≈ $125.5 million dollars).

Lastly, mango production in 2022 reached 2 million 176 thousand tons, valued at 12 billion 138 million pesos ($712.2 million dollars), cultivated across 209 thousand 576 hectares throughout the country.
