Australian horticulture forecast to grow by 22.5% between now and 2030

In Australia, the horticultural sector is on a growth trajectory that has just been confirmed by a report estimating that growth in value terms could reach +22.5% by 2030.
 
According to the Horticulture Industry Economic Contribution Report, commissioned by Hort Innovation, horticulture contributed AUD15.2 billion (USD10.2 billion) to Australia's GDP in 2020-21. By 2030, Australia's fruit, vegetable, nut, turf and nursery industries are expected to grow by +22.5% in combined value, increasing by AUD 4 billion (USD 2.7 billion) to AUD 21.8 billion (USD 14.7 billion). 
 
The report details the country's horticultural growing regions, with current and projected economic contributions by 2030. For example, the North West (Mildura) in Victoria is Australia's largest horticultural region and is forecast to grow by +32%, from AUD 1.7 billion (USD 1.1 billion) in 2020-21 to AUD 2.2 billion (USD 1.4 billion) in 2029-30.
 
In terms of products, the estimated increases in value for 2029-30 compared with 2020-21 are +43.6% for oranges, +29.7% for table grapes, +28.6% for cherries, +51.2% for kiwis, +32.9% for avocados, +26.5% for mangoes, +18.6% for potatoes, +24.4% for carrots and +24.2% for onions.
