Argentina on alert for tomato rough leaf spot virus

Printable version
Argentina's National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa) has issued a phytosanitary alert for the entire national territory due to the tomato rugose virus, ToBRFV, a new disease affecting tomato and bell pepper crops.

The measure, in force until December 31, 2024, was published in the Official Gazette through Resolution 569/2023. Its main objective is to strengthen public and private interinstitutional actions to assess the ToBRFV situation in the country, contain and eradicate detected outbreaks, prevent its spread and keep growers and society in general informed.

A Crisis Committee has been created, coordinated by Senasa and made up of Senasa's National Plant Protection Directorate, the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), the National Seed Institute (INASE), official research centers, universities, provincial governments and representatives of the public and private sectors.

As part of this joint work, technical talks will be held to inform producers, professionals and technicians of the sector about the virus. The first event will be held virtually on July 11, followed by a meeting in the province of Salta on July 12.

If the presence of this disease is suspected, it is essential not to touch the plants, isolate the area and contact Senasa, INASE or INTA. Write to [email protected] or WhatsApp +541135859810 to report suspected cases.
