Difficulties for the cashew nut industry

Printable version
Currently on the world market, the supply of cashew kernels exceeds demand, mainly due to the declining purchasing power of traditional consumers such as Americans and Europeans.

According to local media, this is how Dr Adama Coulibaly, Director of the Conseil Coton-Anacarde, the industry's regulatory body in Côte d'Ivoire, explained the situation in the sector.

The fall in international demand has led to a drop of around 30% in the export price of raw cashew nuts. For local producers, this has also meant a drop in revenue. In some parts of the country, prices have fallen below the minimum price set by the government.

The necessary measures will be taken to support the sector.

Côte d'Ivoire is the world's 1st largest cashew nut producer and 3rd largest exporter of cashew kernels (the name given to the processed cashew nut), behind Vietnam and India.
