1st edition of Cherry Month

In Canada, BCCA (British Columbia Cherry Association), the association of cherry professionals in the province of British Columbia, has just created Cherry Month to highlight and support Canadian farmers and local cherries. 
 
This 1st edition of Canadian Cherry Month will run from July 15 to August 15.
The event will feature a multitude of activities, with retailers invited to take part in a national cherry presentation contest, as well as consumer promotions, contests and advertising campaigns. 
 
In Canada, mid-July to mid-August is the peak of the cherry season. The province of British Columbia is the country's No. 1 region, accounting for 95% of Canadian cherries. Varieties grown in the province include Satin, Cristalina, Skeena, Lapins, Sweetheart, Sentennial, Staccato and Sovereign.
