VIII Red Fruit Congress in full swing

Today and tomorrow, the eighth International Red Fruit Congress, organized by the Huelva Association of Strawberry Producers and Exporters of Huelva, Freshuelva, takes place in Huelva. The congress focuses on various aspects related to production and marketing, including logistics, exploring new markets, water resource requirements, and the health benefits associated with consuming red fruits.

Taking place at the Casa Colón in Huelva, the Congress suggests an exhibition space with more than 60 stands allows for showcasing various products, as well as separate rooms for parallel activities, including presentations.

Today's schedule features the official inauguration and an initial presentation by entrepreneur and speaker Emilio Duró, titled 'Travel through life with optimism, hope, and enthusiasm.' 

Technical presentations will follow, including those from the Huelva Port Authority and Interfresa.

Tomorrow's session will include presentations by importing companies, who will analyze emerging international markets for the red fruit sector. Additionally, discussions will cover the importance of water resources in crop cultivation and the positive health contributions associated with consuming red fruits.

Worth mentioning that 75% of Spain's red berries exports originate from the province of Huelva. In 2022, Spanish exports reached 1,693 million euros, a decrease of 1% compared to 2021. However, the overall evolution in recent years has been positive, with exports rising from 1,352 million euros in 2018 to 1,693 million euros in 2022, marking a 25% increase.

Among red fruits, strawberries are the most exported, with a value of 711 million euros in 2022, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency.

In the first quarter of 2023, Spanish red fruit exports amounted to 615 million euros, representing a 1.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
