Cherry harvest in Salamanca to drop 35% this season

 

Cherry producers in Salamanca, Spain, are concerned over this year's low harvest as a result of insufficient rainfall and unseasonably high temperatures during spring. According to local farmers, the fruit is ripening faster than usual due to the harsh weather, and around 200 kilos of cherries were harvested last Sunday.

They expect that this year's harvest will be about 35% lower than in 2022, and the size of the cherries is expected to be smaller than usual. 

Farmers explain that the ripening time for each variety varies from a month to a month and a half. Despite the significant shortage of water in the fields, the producers are worried about rain at the wrong time, which could crack the fruit, causing a further decline in profits for this campaign. 

Despite the challenges, producers remain optimistic about the quality of this year's harvest.
