Japan imported less energy but more Russian fruit

In 2022 Japan decreased its imports of Russian oil, gas and coal but increased its imports of Russian cereals and fruits.
 
Russian media reports that according to data from the Ministry of Finance of Japan, from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year, Japan imported oil from Russia (-80.5 % in volume), liquefied natural gas (-6.2%), coal (-55.2%) but also cereals (+38.4% in volume) and fruit (+646.1%).
 
During the same period, Japanese imports of Russian vegetables varied by -8.3% and those of Russian soybeans by -31.8%.
 
According to data processed by tradingeconomics.com, Japanese imports from Russia amounted to USD 14.89 billion in 2022.
