India accounts for nearly 45% of world mango production. But this year unfavorable weather conditions will lead to a decrease in production.

According to local media, unseasonal rains, hailstorms and gusty winds affected the mango harvest. Damage is estimated at around 20% across the country, according to ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) provisional data.

Crop losses are greatest in northern India, especially in the state of Uttar Pradesh, which is one of the country's main mango-producing states, where losses reach around 30% in some areas. In southern India, losses are estimated at 8%.

India had produced 21 million tonnes of mangoes in the 2021-22 campaign and 20.3 million tonnes the previous year, according to government estimates
