Turkey has restricted tomato exports until April 14

Printable version
According to the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture, this measure is necessary to ensure food supply security and price stability in the country.

Turkish media reported that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry informed its 81 regional directorates of new export regulations for certain products. No phytosanitary and/or sanitary certificates need to be issued for export applications for tomatoes (fresh/chilled) until April 14, 2023.

However, some countries and regions are not affected by this restriction: the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC), Palestine and Azerbaijan including Nakhitchevan.

These restrictive measures come due to the disruptions linked to the earthquake which directly affected 11 provinces and the soaring prices of tomatoes observed in the country.

For the Turkish consumer, at the beginning of the year, tomatoes were sold between 10 and 15 TRY (0.53 USD and 0.79 USD) but the prices reached 20 to 28 TRY (1.06 USD and 1.48 USD). USD)
