Indian demand boosts Nepalese cabbage exports

Printable version
In recent years, Nepal has seen a certain slowdown in its exports, except for cabbage, which in 5 months has recorded better results than the whole of the previous year.

According to data from Nepal Customs, the country exported 11,673 tons of cabbage to India worth NPR 136.17 (USD 1.04 million) in the first 5 months of the current fiscal year which s ended in mid-December 2022.

These figures for 5 months are already higher than the entire previous fiscal year when cabbage exports totaled 11,081 tons worth NPR 124.82 million (USD 0.951 million).

India has boosted its demand for Nepalese cabbage due to strong demand in its organic vegetable market. In Nepal the agricultural land in the hills is very suitable for the production of organic vegetables. With this increase in exports to India, Nepalese farmers have expanded the area devoted to this vegetable. Further increases in cabbage exports are expected in the coming years.
