Direct exports by air will increase

Printable version
In western Kenya, the county of Uasin Gishu has an airport in the town of Eldoret which could help to further develop direct exports to European and Middle Eastern markets.

According to Kenyan media, Jonathan Bii, the governor of Uasin Gishu County, recently visited the airport to assess the site's capacities which some professionals consider underutilized. During this visit, Walter Agong, the airport manager, announced that the runway would be extended by 500 meters in order to accommodate large cargo planes.

Thus the reception of large cargo planes and the facilities available (warehouses, cold rooms) will make it possible to further develop exports of local products to Europe and the Middle East. Currently, the volumes exported reach around 40 to 50 tonnes per week.

Uasin Gishu county benefits from favorable climatic conditions for agriculture and produces flowers, fruits and vegetables, in particular green beans and avocados, for which international demand remains strong.
