Further increases expected for South African stone fruit exports

Printable version
After a disappointing 2021/22 season that had experienced numerous commercial and logistical problems, South African stone fruit growers and exporters are forecasting increased export volumes for 2022/23.

According to data published by Hortgro, producers and exporters expect increased exported volumes for the 2022/23 season: 86,000 tonnes for plums, i.e. +4% compared to the 2021/22 season; 6,550 tonnes for peaches, i.e. +4% compared to the 2021/22 season; 23,650 tonnes for nectarines, i.e. +15% compared to the 2021/22 season and 3,085 tonnes for apricots, i.e. +9% compared to the 2021/22 season.

These forecast increases are the result of better weather conditions, an increase in acreage and new orchards. The harvest is described as good to above average.
