Some European fruits and vegetables manage to arrive in Belarus

Printable version
Despite the embargo since January 1, 2022 decreed by Belarus, European fruits and vegetables arrive in Belarus.

Belarus decreed on January 1, 2022 a 6-month embargo on food products from the EU. European exports of fruit and vegetables to Belarus accounted for a turnover of around 250 million euros, according to data from the European Parliament.

According to our colleagues East-Fruit, in Poland and other EU countries, the prices of certain fruits and vegetables have recorded a sudden increase. Yet stocks of these products are high and demand remains at normal or low levels. The explanation would be that Belarus has reopened its market.

Belarus, not producing enough fruit and vegetables, is experiencing a shortage of certain products and price inflation. European products are necessary.

But the bans on trucks (European trucks entering Belarus and trucks from Bio-Russia and Russia entering the EU) remain. Products seem to be delivered to the border and then reloaded, resulting in longer delays and higher costs.
