Serbian raspberry growers predict record price this year

Printable version
The constant increase in demand on international markets and a production yield in Serbia expected to fall this year, lead Serbian professionals to predict a very high level of raspberry prices.

According to RINA.rs (Regional Information News Agency) the purchase price of raspberries for this year's harvest could be between 5.1 euro and 6.8 euro per kilogram, which would represent a new record.

In Serbia, this year the produced volume of raspberries will be lower due to the drought which has stopped the growth of young plants. If the Serbian production is decreasing, the price will increase considerably according to the forecasts of Mr Dobrivoje Radovic, president of the Association of raspberry producers of Serbia.

In 2021, according to Mr Dobrivoje Radovic, the Serbian raspberry harvest totaled 70,000 tons, a volume considered low and resulting from unfavorable weather conditions. On the international markets, the demand for Serbian raspberries was huge because the available supply was less.

In Serbia, while around 24,000 hectares of agricultural land has been registered as being used for raspberry production, the actual cultivated area of raspberries must total 14,000 hectares according to Mr. Dobrivoje Radovic's estimates.
