Iran plans date production totaling 1.2 million tonnes

In Iran, despite drought and low rainfall, date production in the current calendar year is expected to reach 1.2 million tonnes.
 
According to an estimate from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Iran is expected to produce 1.2 million tonnes of dates in the current calendar year which ends on March 20, 2022.
 
In the first 4 months of the current calendar year (March 20-July 21) Iran exported more than 60,000 tonnes of dates to 52 countries, said IRICA, the Customs Administration. In value, these exports over 4 months represented 53.051 million USD.
 
The main recipient countries were Iraq (9.7 million USD), Pakistan (7.6 million USD), Kazahstan (5.9 million USD). Followed by Sweden, the Netherlands, Russia, Turkey, Qatar, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Great Britain, India, China and Hungary.
 
This date production of 1.2 million tonnes on approximately 203,763 hectares of land makes Iran the 2nd largest producer in terms of production and cultivated area and the 5th largest exporter.
