Tunisia exceeds its citrus export target

Printable version
Despite the difficulties linked to the effects of the health situation, Tunisia achieved the objective, set before the start of the season, which provided for a volume of 15,000 tonnes of exported citrus.

According to GIFruits (Groupement Interprofessionnel des Fruits) data, exported volumes of citrus fruits reached, from the start of the export season (October 1, 2020) until April, 15,246 tonnes. That is to say approximately + 57% compared to the 9,699 tonnes recorded for the same period during the 2019/2020 season.

In terms of value, citrus exports this season have already reached over 31 million TND ($11.3 million) against 22.3 million TND ($8.1 million) last season.

A single variety of oranges, the 'Maltese' variety, represents 89% of total exports, or over 13,000 tonnes. In terms of destination, France occupies 1st place with 67% of the total volume shipped, followed by Libya with 31% and with smaller shares Qatar, Kuwait and Canada.

Export operations are still ongoing and will further improve this provisional result. Tunisia produced 440,000 tonnes of oranges.
