Tunisia exports fruit by sea to Libya

Road traffic at the border of the two countries was blocked by demonstrators. To get around this blockage and resume the normal pace of shipments, Tunisian fruit exports are carried out by sea.
 
 
 
Around Ben Guerdane, a town located 32 km from the border with Libya, demonstrators blocked the passage of Tunisian and Libyan trucks in both directions. Paralyzing Tunisian fruit exports. The Libyan market absorbs between 30 and 50% of Tunisian agricultural products, making it an essential market for the agricultural sector in Tunisia.
 
 
 
To facilitate the export of fruit to Libya, GIFruits (Groupement Interprofessionnel des Fruits) has set up shipments by sea. From three Tunisian ports (Sousse, Sfax, Bizerte) to the ports of Tripoli and Misrata. A crossing is scheduled every 10 days.
 
 
 
Tunisia has achieved good harvests, in particular for apples (157,000 tonnes) and pomegranates (120,000 tonnes), half of which should be marketed on the Libyan market.
