Resumption of exports to West Africa

Printable version
Morocco has resumed exports of potatoes and onions to West African markets. These Moroccan exports had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic and for fear of a shortage on the domestic market.

The Ministry of Agriculture has assured that the needs of the national market are largely covered this year. The current stock of potatoes and expected production are estimated at over 2 million tonnes, exceeding the demand of the domestic market. Identical situation for the onion, the needs are covered thanks to a production approaching 900,000 tonnes.

Moroccan exports have resumed, mainly by road to Nouakchott. In the capital of Mauritania, an area has been set up and equipped for Moroccan truckers to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Mauritania is one of the top 4 West African countries importing potatoes and onions, along with Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and Nigeria.
