Saudi Arabia imports 80% of its food

According to SFDA (Saudi Food and Drug Administration) data, the country imports 80% of its food from 157 countries.
 
 
 
In a recent television interview, the CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), Hisham Al-Jedaie, said that 80% of food in Saudi Arabia is imported from more than 157 countries. Among these sources, Saudi Arabia imported 15% of its food from Brazil and 11.67% from Thailand.
 
 
 
In this time of health crisis, and to help the private sector affected by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, government assistance has been decided. The Ministry of Agriculture announced aid of SAR 2 billion ($ 531.6 million) for the import of agricultural products, in line with the country's food security strategy.
