Exports to the EU dropped 46%

Printable version
Kenya is experiencing a severe drop in exports of fresh fruit and vegetables to the EU.

In the past 2 weeks, exports from Kenya to the European Union have fallen by 46% due to the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. The complete or partial blockages decided by European countries have forced certain importers in Europe to cancel or reduce their orders.

But according to AEA (Agricultural Employers Association) supermarkets mainly in the UK, Sweden and Russia have maintained orders for fresh Kenyan produce. The organization says it is confident for the future, after some adjustments, European demand for fruit and vegetables will resume.

Unlike the flowers sector where the situation is considered catastrophic. Exports to the main market, the Netherlands, have been suspended.
