In Tunisia the harvest of dates for this 2019-20 season is expected to break all records, reaching a much higher volume than the 305 000 tonnes harvested in 2017.

According to Ezzeddine Chalghef, general manager of agricultural production at the Ministry of Agriculture, the date harvest will beat all records this year. The estimate is 340 000 tonnes or 17.5% more than the 2018 harvest which totaled 289 000 tonnes and 11.5% more than the last record of 305 000 tonnes in 2017.

Tunisia exports its dates to more than 80 destinations. The 1st customer is Morocco with 30 to 35,000 tons, ahead of Spain with 9,500 tons. Several markets recorded remarkable growth rates, such as Canada (+ 11%), Singapore (+ 42%), Bangladesh (+ 54%), Mali (+ 65%) and Côte d'Ivoire (+ 44%).
