Severe drop in citrus production is expected

Printable version
In Morocco, the citrus sector is forecasting a difficult season, with a probable drop in production of 40 to 50%.

Unlike previous campaigns that had recorded volume records, for this season Moroccan professionals expect a tonnage deficit, of the order of 40 to 50%.

Several factors explain this decline in production, first the exhaustion of trees following the overproduction of the year behind, and then the unfavorable weather conditions during flowering which caused a decline in production potential.

This drop in production will lead to lower export volumes. In Morocco the areas dedicated to citrus fruits exceed 128 000 hectares, the production reached 2.6 million tons in 2018/19.
