Spain, the Netherlands and Italy are Germany's main suppliers

According to Destatis, the Federal Statistical Office, Germany imported 6.2 million tonnes of fruit and almost 4.9 million tonnes of vegetables in 2022.
 
The Destatis report shows that in 2022 Germany's main suppliers were Spain with 1.6 million tonnes of fruit and 1.3 million tonnes of vegetables (26% of the total), followed by the Netherlands with 0.3 million tonnes of fruit and 1.5 million tonnes of vegetables (16% of the total) and Italy with 0.7 million tonnes of fruit and 0.3 million tonnes of vegetables (9% of the total).
 
In 2022, Spain was by far the most important country of origin for many products. It supplied 79% of oranges imported by Germany, 52% of watermelons and melons, 43% of cucumbers, 50% of peppers, 50% of salads, 46% of onions, 67% of peaches and nectarines, 72% of lemons, 68% of courgettes and 50% of aubergines.
 
Although Italy is only the 3rd largest supplier, it provides Germany with 40% of all imported apples for consumption, as well as 33% of imported table grapes, 41% of imported apricots, 43% of imported kiwifruit, 53% of imported spinach, 76% of imported broccoli and 87% of imported fennel.
