Income from fruit exports exceeds $3,7 million until April

From January to April 2023, Chilean fruit exports registered 1,482 thousand tons, valued at $3,752 million, as per the latest "Fruit Bulletin" released by Odepa.

Comparing this period to the same term in 2022, there was a -2.5% decrease in exported volume and a 4% increase in value. Fresh fruit accounted for 86.1% of the total value, while processed fruit (juices, oils, preserves, frozen, dehydrated) constituted 11.3%, and dried fruits (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts) made up 2.6% of the total value.

Within the fresh fruit category, sales reached 1,256 thousand tons, amounting to $3,229 million, a volume decrease of -3.3% compared to the same period in the previous year, while the value increased by 3.3%.

The most prominent species in this group were cherries, with 302,145 tons and $1,593 million, accounting for 49% of the total value of fresh fruit exports during this period. Its shipments increased 6% in volume and 6.8% in value compared to the corresponding period in 2022. The primary destination was China (90% of the total value).

Table grapes followed in importance, with 438,600 tons worth $708.9 million. Although there was a decrease of -4.9% in volume, the value increased by 1.8% compared to the same period last year. The United States (49%) and China (13%) were the main buyers of table grapes during this period.

Blueberries ranked third, with shipments of 72,200 tons, equivalent to $331.9 million. However, there was a decline of -19.8% in volume and -6% in value compared to the same period in the previous year. The United States (accounting for 49% of total blueberry shipments' value) and the Netherlands (21%) were the primary destinations.

Plums ranked fourth with some 134,400 tons shipped, worth $218.9 million. Despite a volume decrease of -5.8%, there was a 9% increase in value compared to the same period in the previous year. The major markets were China (70%) and the United States (13%).
