Printable version
In New Zealand weather events throughout the 2023 growing season contributed to a lower than expected kiwifruit harvest this season.

According to the latest estimate by Zespri, only 136 million trays of green, SunGold and RubyRed kiwifruit will be exported this season. This represents a variation of -20.47% compared to the 171 million trays exported in 2022.

Dan Mathieson, Zespri's managing director, predicts one of the lowest volumes of green kiwifruit in 20 years, at around 42 million trays. Or -31.15% compared to the 61 million trays in 2022.

Currently, more than half of this season's fruit has been harvested and planning for next season is already underway. In 2024 the volume harvested will be greater, due to new orchards which will reach maturity.

Zespri expects continued growth in the coming years, with 230 million trays in 2027/28.
