South Korea, a new destination for Kenyan avocados

Printable version
As part of its strategy to expand and diversify markets, Kenya will export avocados to South Korea.

Kenya will start exporting avocados to South Korea from March 2022, according to the announcement made by Theophilus Mutui, managing director of Kephis (Kenya Health Plant Inspectorate Service).

A few weeks ago, a Kenyan delegation visited South Korea and Secretary of State for Commerce Betty Maina met with her South Korean counterpart. The various meetings resulted in an agreement that will allow Kenya to start exporting avocados to South Korea.

Kephis (Kenya Health Plant Inspectorate Service) clarified that it has drawn up phytosanitary standards that exporters will have to comply with to allow avocados to be shipped to this new market.

Kenya should also be able to export pineapples to supplement coffee, cut flowers, broccoli and bananas which are already authorized by South Korea.
