Mango: Kenya's exports to the EU to resume in September

Printable version
For 8 years Kenya had self-imposed the export ban because of the presence of fruit flies on its mangoes. The efforts of the whole sector have just been rewarded, the EU has approved the resumption of exports.

The European Union has just approved the resumption of Kenyan mango exports after tests showed reduced levels of the incidence of pests.

This decision is a relief for Kenyan producers. Before the ban, the European market represented a turnover of around 5 billion KES ($46.2 million) for the sector.

Scheduled for September, the resumption of Kenyan shipments to the EU will take place at the right time. Important global suppliers, such as China and India, are in the low season while for Kenya the peak season is between November and March. This will be a real advantage in conquering market share.
