Chilean fruit crops affected by spring rains

The president of Frutas de Chile, Iván Marambio, has expressed his concern about the spring rains that are affecting various regions of Chile.

Although it's impossible yet fully quantify the damage, the technical teams are carrying out on-the-ground assessments, and the results will be available in the next few days, according to Marambio.

The leader of Frutas de Chile stressed the importance of adaptation in this challenging scenario. He emphasized that as a sector, they have been preparing, moving some crops to more productive areas, investing in roofs to protect crops and developing new fruit varieties resistant to drought and diseases. According to Marmbio, the technologies, such as phytosanitary methods, are being used to mitigate damage. However, these measures imply higher costs for producers, such as the application of products to prevent the appearance of fungi or other damage to the fruit.

In conclusion, the president of Frutas de Chile reported that the blueberry, cherry and table grape committees are working on new estimates that reflect the adverse climatic conditions.
