Moroccan berry production hit by Bernard storm

In Morocco, storm Bernard, with its violent winds and torrential rain, affected fruit production.

According to local media reports, storm Bernard caused extensive damage to greenhouses growing raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and strawberries.  In all, almost 9,000 hectares of crops were damaged.

The north of the country, between Rabat and Larache, suffered the strongest winds. This area accounts for a large proportion of the country's soft fruit production. According to initial estimates, raspberry production was the hardest hit, with losses of up to 70% of expected export volumes.
