Spain's fruit and veg imports continue to increase

Spain's fruit and vegetable imports from January to July 2023 have grown significantly compared to the same period in 2022. 

According to data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes of the Spanish Tax Agency, the total volume increased by 15%, reaching 2.4 million tons, while the value rose by 24%, reaching 2.648 billion euros.

The most significant import expansion came from non-EU countries, with a 20% rise in volume compared to the first seven months of 2022, totaling 1.38 million tons, and a 19% increase in value, amounting to 1.793 billion euros.

Imports from non-EU countries now comprise 56% of Spain's total import volume, contributing to 68% of the total import value.

France remains Spain's top supplier, with 521,457 tons and a 1% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Imports from the Netherlands reached 162,344 tons (+30%), while Italy supplied 95,537 tons (+29%).

Morocco remains Spain’s primary source of fruits and vegetables outside the EU, providing 324,930 tons. Imports from Costa Rica reached 211,179 tons (+16%), while those from Peru amounted to 145,763 tons (+27%).
