According to Potatoes USA, in the 12 months from July 2022 to June 2023, the volume of exports reached 3.3 million tonnes (fresh weight equivalent), or +3.85%; the value of exports reached USD 2.2 billion, or +19.05% compared to the same period last year.

 

The increase in export volume was led by dehydrated potatoes (+25.63%) and crisps and chips (+11.19%). Overall, around 20% of American potatoes are exported.

 

The value of these exports has increased in all categories: fresh (+15.57%), frozen (+20.43%), dehydrated (+24.00%), crisps and chips (+11.34%), and seed and planting stock (+3.68%).

 

Between July 2022 and June 2023, Mexico became the largest export market for American potatoes for the first time, followed by Canada and Japan. The entire Mexican market opened up to US exports of fresh potatoes in May 2022.
