After a rather promising 1st quarter of 2023, Cameroon's banana exports have just recorded a further fall in volume.
According to Assobacam (Cameroon Banana Association), the volume of bananas exported in August 2023 totalled 13,815 tonnes, down 12.2% on August 2022.
The 3 main operators achieved very different results: CDC, the state-owned company, exported 2,795 tonnes of bananas, up 74% on August 2022; PHP (Plantations du Haut Penja) exported 9,996 tonnes, down 22.5% on August 2022; Boh Plantations exported 1,024 tonnes, down 16.7% on August 2022.
Cameroon is the 2nd largest producer in the ACP (Africa-Caribbean-Pacific) zone, behind Côte d'Ivoire. Cameroon exports its bananas mainly to the European market.
