Strawberries are Wimbledon's star fruit
At the Wimbledon tennis tournament in England, strawberries and cream have been offered to the public since the very 1st edition in 1877. The tournament takes place at the peak of the local strawberry season.
According to the Wimbledon organization, the price of a portion of 10 strawberries and cream has remained at 2.50 GBP (3.18 USD) since 2010. In 2019 the event recorded the consumption of 191,930 portions of strawberries and cream.
These strawberries are all English, from the Kent region. The strawberries are picked at 4:00 am each morning, processed by the packing site from 9:00 am and then delivered to Wimbledon for sale the same day.
