European Pear Congress in full swing

The European Pear Congress, Interpera, started today in Lleida (Spain) and brought together international producers and stakeholders to discuss common technical and economic topics. One of the main announcements of the Congress will be this year's harvest forecasts.

In tomorrow's conference program, the European pear harvest forecasts for 2023 in the main producing countries will be presented. Experts from Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Italy, and France will gather at a roundtable discussion to share the market trends of pears.

Organized by the Business Association of Fruit of Catalonia, AFRUCAT, and the Assembly of European Horticultural and Fruit-Producing Regions, AREFLH, the Congress will also feature presentations on global climate change and its impact on the pear sector. Antonio Ruiz de Elvira, a professor of Physics at the University of Alcalá de Henares, will explain the reasons behind the changing climate.

Participants will also learn about three climate change adaptation projects: the Spanish project "New pear varieties adapted to climate change,", the Belgian project "Q-Pear: high-quality pears in a changing climate," and the French project "Means to improve the environmental performance of pears throughout the supply chain."
