With an annual production of more than 10 million tons and exports reaching only 6 to 7 million tons, Bangladesh has for some years been emphasizing the expansion of exportable and quality potato varieties to better meet at the request of foreign markets.

 

According to local media, a Japanese company is interested in importing potatoes from Bangladesh. After tests carried out by a Japanese laboratory, the potatoes of the Valencia variety were found to be of good quality and tasty.

 

This opening of the Japanese market crowns the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and BADC (Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation) which have worked to expand new varieties of potatoes. By importing many improved varieties and by various support for farmers. Growing these exportable potato varieties will create a huge opportunity for the sector
