For the 1st time, Bangladesh has just exported fruits using a refrigerated container.
Local media reported that on March 17, about 13.32 tons of watermelons and 700 tons of tomatoes were exported in a reefer container to Malaysia. Sea journey of 7 to 10 days.
This is the first time that a reefer container has been used for export to Bangladesh. The country exports potatoes by sea in standard containers, and vegetables and fruits such as mango by air.
The success of this 1st expedition would make it possible to develop exports of watermelon, as well as other fruits, by sea to countries such as the states of the Middle East, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries in South Asia. .
According to the DAE (Department of Agricultural Extension) the area of watermelons reached about 47,000 hectares in 2022 and the production was around 1.9 million tons.
