Variation of -37.39% in value for fruit imports

In Bangladesh, over the period from July 2022 to January 2023 compared to the same previous period, fruit imports varied by -37.79% in value.

According to Bangladesh Bank, over the period from July 2022 to January 2023 the country imported fruits worth 157.38 million USD. That is, compared to the previous period, a variation of -37.79%.

Industry analysts believe that this decline was driven by the current cost of the US dollar (+25% compared to the previous period) which increased import costs, driving up retail prices (+15 at +30%) which caused a reduction in sales of imported fruits.

Bangladesh imports apples from South Africa, Brazil, China and Australia, pomegranates from India, pears from Pakistan, oranges from Egypt, mandarins from from China and India and grapes from India and Pakistan.
