Zimbabwe is still far from the volumes exported by the first 2 African countries (Kenya, South Africa) but this good result for 2022 makes it possible to predict an even higher volume in 2023.
According to local media, HDC (Horticulture Development Council) reported that avocado exports totaled 8,180 tons. Divided into 5,180 tons of 1st quality fruit and 3,000 tons of fruit for oil production.
This total volume exported is well above the 5,000 tonnes expected by ZAGA (Zimbabwe Avocado Growers Association) in its estimate during the season.
Professionals in the sector estimate that the volume exported could reach 10,000 tonnes of avocados by 2025, thanks to the hundreds of hectares of plantations that will come into full production over the next few years.
