Increases in volume (+15.6%) and in value (+18.1%) for Albanian exports which are driven by the increase in the production of green vegetables.
According to the Albanian Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural exports to other countries in the Balkan region and to the EU reached a value of EUR 473 million (USD 510.7 million), the highest value ever recorded .
Compared to 2021, agricultural exports increased by +15.6% in volume and +18.1% in value. These increases are the result of numerous investments made (export chains, storage, etc.) but above all of the increase in the production of green vegetables.
Exports of green vegetables have led to the strongest growth in the regions of the country (Berat, Lushnjë, Fier, Divjakën) where agriculture is most intensive. The products exported were mainly greenhouse vegetables, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, cabbages, onions, leeks.
According to a 2022 World Bank report, the Albanian agricultural sector has potential. The tomato could represent an important source of income for producers if other markets, such as Western Europe, were targeted. The report identified several other products that could become a source of income: nuts, fruits, canned olives and watermelons.
